Herpes zoster
Herpes zoster, also known as shingles, is a painful condition caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox.1-4 Upon primary infection, often occurring during childhood, the virus stays latent in the dorsal root ganglia.5 In some countries greater than 90% of the population show serological evidence of varicella zoster virus infection, and 1 in 3 people develop herpes zoster in their lifetime.6,7
