APNA at the request of and with funding from GSK has developed this comprehensive new module to support primary health care nurses with an understanding of meningococcal disease, the burden of disease and immunisation choices to assist in prevention.

Suitable for all nurses working in primary health care including general practice.

Learning outcomes

• List the meningococcal serogroups and modes of disease transportation.
• Describe the clinical features and complications and treatment of meningococcal disease.
• Discuss the prevalence of the disease in Australia including those groups at risk.
• Explain the difference between vaccines and vaccine dosing schedules.
• Discuss the key components of effective conversations with parents and patients.
